Lugaru for Vita (beta) now available


You can now play Lugaru on your Vita!

This is my first time porting a game to Vita, and it was fun.

Getting the game to boot was easy thanks to VitaGL and an SDL port, but the game was unplayably slow. For context, the Vita's CPU is clocked at 333mhz with only 3 usable cores, while the original Lugaru ran entirely on a single thread. To make it playable on the Vita, I had to refactor a lot of game systems, mainly physics, animations, and particles to distribute workload across threads.

Anyways, after all of that the game is finally playable at 60 FPS at the stock speeds (no overclock needed). In fact, you can even underclock it quite a bit and still get stable 60 FPS in some maps.

The game still has some minor graphical glitches and major bugs (i.e. crashes), but they're not too frequent and I figured it was good enough to release. Since saving works, a crash just means losing progress for the current level and having to restart the game. Annoying, but acceptable for a "beta" release.
